Mark Vertlib is our June award winner

How long have you been axe throwing?

About 2 years

What’s your favorite thing about Axe Throwing?
This is a sport that allows people to try something new in a safe environment! It’s an excellent outlet for daily frustrations like work, school, traffic, and taxes, and a fun activity that people very quickly see tangible progress in. I love being part of that experience.
What do you tell people who have never thrown an axe before?
The most important thing is to commit to the throw (put a ring on it). You have to throw it as hard as you can when you are starting and hone your technique at that energy level!
If you could throw axes with any one person in history who would it be and why?
Anyone who could teach me a new cool trickshot so that I can one-up my fellow coaches 🙂

What do you do when you’re not axe throwing?

I am an avid reader and podcast enthusiast
What’s a cool fact about you?
I’m going to briefly appear on one of my favorite podcasts as an opportunist scumbag character and I’m very excited about it!
Do you have any hidden talents?

I’ve been a storyteller for a long time, specifically through the use of tabletop roleplaying games.

If you were marooned on a desert island what 3 items would you bring?

A flare gun, a bag of rations, a raft.

Is there anyone you’d like to make a shout out to?
Julianna, my girlfriend, for putting up with me and keeping me going through long work weeks!
