He played collegiate basketball at Auburn for 3 seasons. In 1984 Berkley was selected with the fifth pick in the first round by the Philadelphia 76ers.

In 1992 Charles made a trade to the Phoenix Suns where he continued to excel and perfect his game. The final trade occurred in 1996 to the Houston Rockets. This was Berkley’s last chance at capturing an NBA championship title. Battling various injuries, Berkley continued his basketball career till 1999. Immediately after his final game, he retired and concluded his sixteen-year Hall of Fame career. Additionally, in 1992 and 1996 Charles competed and won 2 Olympic gold medals.

Since 2011 Berkley has also served as a studio analyst for the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, in addition to serving as a guest commentator for NBC’s coverage of the NFL Wild Card playoffs.
