WYCC recently visited Bad Axe Throwing Chicago and provided an inside look at the unique recreational sport of axe throwing, a first of its kind in the windy city!
“A sport rooted in the deep north woods has found a home in the city.”
says Paul Bunyan of WYCC. Bad Axe Throwing Chicago is the first location to open in the U.S. With 10 locations across Canada. Opening in Chicago has brought the thrill of urban axe throwing to the West Loop neighbourhood. Only open for 6 months, the Chicago location has seen tremendous success, booking small groups to large groups, catering birthday parties, bachelor/bachelorette parties, and most popular, corporate & team building events and axe throwing leagues! The Chicago location is the most popular and competitive for axe throwing leagues, reserving 2 weeknight evenings a week for leagues due to high demand. Leagues run for 8 weeks, each week consists of a warm up, challenges and incentives. The final week is reserved for a round robin tournament to crown the ultimate axe throwing champion.
Professional axe throwing coaches provide instruction on how to safely throw the axe allowing amateurs and self proclaimed lumberjacks to step up to the challenge in a monitored and fun environment. Google recently hosted a team building event at Bad Axe Throwing that capped off a three day conference in Chicago. Eduardo Gonzalez from Google says “Very fun experience, you can definitely relieve some of the work stress”.
